The well-known South
West Airlines made its debut as a small airline from Dallas, Texas, today it is
one of the popular domestic airlines.
But the rise to popularity was not easy for the airlines, and it would
have seen even more success but for the Wright’s Amendment which limited its operations only to a few places.
The Wright’s
amendment was initiated by then Congressman Jim Wright in 1979 to protect the
Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas from losing business and having
competition. The amendment prevented South West airlines from operating its
flights from the neighboring states, and this amendment will be expiring in
October 2014.
All these years’
passengers were forced to pay higher fares due to prevention of more airlines operating
from the Love Field Airport, because of the Wright’s Amendment, with the end of
the amendment coming soon; passenger traffic will see a rise resulting in fall
of fares. With the expiry of the amendment nearing, the Love Field Airport is
all being spruced up to face the increase in passengers. South West Airlines is
all set to face the challenge and increase its profits.
